American Lawn Mower Price Leader Push Reel Mower

by lars on January 30, 2010

This is a very basic reel mower, and it is perfect for helping kids earn their allowance money. It has a few weight and cost saving features, like fewer blades and high impact polymer wheels. The wheels on this model aren’t quite as durable as metal wheels, but it does save on weight.

The 14 inch cutting area is also much smaller than other mowers – this means that the mower is easy to push, but can take about 50% longer to cut the same yard as a 20 inch mower.

Technical details:

  • Cutting Width: 14 inch
  • Weight: 19 lbs
  • Wheel diameter: 8.5 inches
  • Minimum cutting height: 0.5 inch
  • Maximum cutting height: 1.5 inch
  • Handle: zinc plated, with plastic grips
  • Ball bearing wheels: No – sleeve design
  • Manufactured in: China/USA
  • MSRP: $89

What is your opinion of a 4-blade vs. a 5-blade reel mower i.e. American Lawn Mower? I’m trying to figure out which 4-blade cuts efficiently given the width of the mower, which is 14″.
